| Detailed Description |
| We are looking for a new house mate for Under the Hammer. Under the Hammer is an Activist-Artists Hub which is funded in part by the rent of house mates living above the space. The first 9 months of the Under the Hammer project have been fantastic. Several community groups have used the space including Platform Youth Theatre, Direct Action, PolyVic and FedUp?. We have had bands and theatre groups rehearsing here. We have had forums and film screenings. We have raised awareness around attacks on the rights of Aboriginal People, and have had speakers including Palestinian Theatre makers, Israeli refusniks and Timorese socialists.
We are right on Sydney Rd. on the tram line, near Moreland Station and with some of the best kebab places, sweet shops and arabic smoking cafe's in Melbourne. The residential area itself has a good size kitchen (fully equipped), loungeroom (complete with a large TV and X-Box), a laundry with a new front load washer, and a bathroom complete with a separate bathtub and separate toilets. There is some furnishing in the rooms and we have the internet on an unlimited plan. The room available is $140 per week ($606 per calendar month) and is 3x3 meter squared. Internet is $14 extra. Bills are split 5 ways as they come in.
The tenants currently include 2 cats and 4 human underlings. We would love people who are interested in arts and/or activism to move in. As the front room is used for all sorts of fun and creative activity we ask that housemates be good at working with others to ensure that everyones needs are met. If housemates want to use Under the Hammer for their own projects that would be fantastic! The meeting space can seat over 50 people, with a kitchenette and projector screen. The property is on a commercial lease so you can paint/decorate and install shelving in your room to your hearts content.
